Great Ad: Pepsi Max show how viral is done (and get revenge in the process)

Pepsi Max’s ‘Test Drive’ ad was a huge viral hit, but many called it out as fake. ‘Test Drive 2’ aims to silence the doubters. And one doubter in particular.

Test Drive 2 Ad

Chances are you’ve seen Pepsi Max’s ‘Test Drive’ video, which went viral to the tune of 40m views. A brilliant ad, but many questioned whether it was faked. One car blog writer in particular, Travis Okulski, claimed that Nascar driver Jeff Gordon didn’t even drive the car and that everyone in it was an actor.

Enter Pepsi Max and Jeff Gordon for a sequel, featuring none other than Okulski as its victim. (more…)

Chromecast the way forward for streaming content to your TV

Google recently unveiled Chromecast, which looks like it could really shake up the internet TV market or even the wider TV broadcasting market

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmpOis2UEJg

Chromecast is a little dongle with an associated app that will wirelessly stream media from phones, tablets and PCs to any TV with an HDMI port. That means you can watch Netflix or YouTube videos on your TV while controlling the action with your phone/tablet/PC (and you can even switch between different devices midway through). All for $35 too. Looks great to us and such a better direction than Google TV.

We wrote about Google TV here on our blog 3 years ago and it’s interesting looking back at our opinions then and what has transpired since (particularly the failure of Google TV to take off). (more…)

Annual design trends infographic from Shutterstock

Shutterstock infographic

Thought we’d share this infographic from one of the leading stock image providers – Shutterstock.

As a provider of stock media – from photos to vectors to videos – they are sat on a huge amount of data, so are in a great position to identify trends, not just from the images and media that people have bought, but also from what their users are searching for. (more…)

A very quick way to show your site on mobiles and tablets

Our website on the Surface

If you want a pic of your website (or any other site for that matter) displayed on a variety of mobiles, tablets, laptops and monitors, placeit is an incredibly easy way to do it.

Just visit the site, choose the shot of the screen you want to use, drag in a screenshot or just type in the URL of your website and bingo, your site appears on the screen of your choice. You can use the images commercially (as long as you credit placeit) and it’s pretty cool if you want to cobble something together quickly.

The image above, showing our very own resplendent front page displayed on the Microsoft Surface, was of course generated by placeit.

Awesome ad from Dollar Shave Club

Every now and then, we see a video which we would have loved to have made!

This ad from Dollar Shave Club is one of our absolute faves. A lesson in viral marketing (and although it’s bloody funny, it’s also spot on for their brand and works as a powerful call to action). Enough said…

A few random things you may not know about the internet

logo

Google was originally called BackRub

But fortunately they changed the name before they were incorporated. Probably wouldn’t have been quite the success it is today!

Want to see how their logo evolved? Read this article on Wired to find out >

Meta Keywords are worthless!

When people talk about SEO (search engine optimisation), you will often hear them advise you to carefully choose keywords that are representative of the page and to put these in the header section under the title ‘meta keywords’. Well, guess what? No major search engine pays a blind bit of notice to them. (more…)

An amazing use of augmented reality

A new app on the iphone is finally demonstrating the power and possibilities of AR.

Augmented reality (AR) is being talked about a lot at the moment, but for all the buzz, I’ve yet to see anything that’s more than just a novelty. Until Word Lens appeared that is. (more…)

Kohort – a lesson in how to create pre-launch buzz

kohort

I’ve just signed up to a new site called Kohort. What is it? Well, I’ve got no idea.

Will it be the next big thing? Who knows! But one thing’s for sure – they know how to build intrigue and create buzz, as people are scrambling to reserve their ‘handles’ despite not having a clue what on earth Kohort is.

So, how have they managed this without even announcing what the product is?

Firstly, they haven’t just popped up out of nowhere. (more…)

We love Love Swimming

Love Swimming Image

We’re very pleased to announce the launch of Love Swimming’s brand spanking new website.

Rather than bang on about what we’ve done and the features, just go have a look. If you’re looking for swimming lessons (whether fun ones for your kids or top-level coaching for yourself), you can’t do better than these guys.

The company is already a success, but we think they’re on their way to great things. As their digital marketing partners, we’re looking forward to continually working with founders Rui and Bila to really take them places. Expect to see more from Love Swimming!
