Thought we’d share this infographic from one of the leading stock image providers – Shutterstock.

As a provider of stock media – from photos to vectors to videos – they are sat on a huge amount of data, so are in a great position to identify trends, not just from the images and media that people have bought, but also from what their users are searching for.

Interesting that downloads of infographics templates themselves were up 525% from the previous year. Likewise, app assets such as icons and buttons were up 134%. Neither of those stats are surprising at all with the huge growth in popularity of visual representations of data (driven by the need to make data interesting and sharable via social media) and the continued growth of apps (and subsequently more developers looking for UI sets).

The top image with 6,055 downloads was a vector retro label set with a ‘quality guaranteed’ theme. Retro or vintage labels are certainly something we’ve seen as a well-established trend. In fact, we seem to have developed our own obsession with circular logos with a retro feel, as demonstrated in a few of our designs below…
