Latest creation for architectural consultants Morph

Morph website

We’ve recently finished a web design and development project for Morph Design Creatives, a London-based architectural consultancy.

We always enjoy designing for designers – it’s great to exchange ideas and it gives us a kick when fellow designers appreciate our work!

The brief was to create a site that put their work centre-stage and reflected their own design philosophies. It was also essential that our client was able to manage content themselves.

The result was a strikingly minimalistic site with a heavy focus on imagery. It was very important that the design portfolio was simple to get around and we focused on simplicity, with intuitive navigation that works beautifully on desktops, but also allows easy touch navigation on phones and tablets.

What is the EU Cookie Law and do we need to do anything?

Cookies

Chances are you’ve heard about the ‘EU Cookie Law’. If you have, you might very well be confused or worried about its implications and what exactly you should be doing about it. If you haven’t, and you own or run a company’s website within the EU, then you need to take note and you probably need to take action (but don’t panic, because it’s not as bad as you might think).

What is it?

The EU Cookie Law as it’s being called is actually part of a European E-Privacy Directive. It was brought in by those helpful people at the EU to protect your privacy.  They think people don’t know what cookies are or what they do (which is probably fair) and that the way to tackle this is to get every website to ask their users to opt in to the use of cookies. Although, browsers allow you to change your privacy settings, apparently this is not enough. There have been a lot of people throwing their toys out of the pram about it (also probably fair), because its most severe interpretation would have every website presenting new users with a big banner asking for their permission to use any cookies (and then only using them if the user ticks ‘yes’).

Read on to see how it affects you

Awesome ad from Dollar Shave Club

Every now and then, we see a video which we would have loved to have made!

This ad from Dollar Shave Club is one of our absolute faves. A lesson in viral marketing (and although it’s bloody funny, it’s also spot on for their brand and works as a powerful call to action). Enough said…

A few random things you may not know about the internet

logo

Google was originally called BackRub

But fortunately they changed the name before they were incorporated. Probably wouldn’t have been quite the success it is today!

Want to see how their logo evolved? Read this article on Wired to find out >

Meta Keywords are worthless!

When people talk about SEO (search engine optimisation), you will often hear them advise you to carefully choose keywords that are representative of the page and to put these in the header section under the title ‘meta keywords’. Well, guess what? No major search engine pays a blind bit of notice to them. (more…)

You can get an android tablet for under $100 (but don’t!)

Maylong tablet

Looking for a great Christmas present? Then look a lot further than this!

The Maylong M-150 is the tablet in question. This quotation from a brilliant review by ars-technica sums it up beautifully:

Anyone looking to buy one would get more bang for the buck by setting it on fire for warmth.

Check out their very detailed review if you’re interested, but if you fancy a laugh (more…)
